Making a baby cake

I want to share my experience in decorating a children's cake with sugar mastic. It’s difficult for me to call this a master class, since I do not consider myself a master by any means. All that I learned to do, I found on the Internet, and this cake is not at all my idea, it is also taken from the World Wide Web. I just want to show from my own experience that decorating a cake with mastic on your own is not so difficult. Of course, you can always order such a cake from specialists, but their cost is not at all low, and this price is justified by making the cake yourself, I understand that. And the point is not that it is difficult to do, just the process is quite lengthy and requires accuracy. But to make such a cake is quite realistic, and everyone can allow their child to enjoy a wonderful cake, at a relatively low price.
So, first you need to prepare a cake that you will decorate. My baby loves a honey cake with a banana layer, and that's what I baked. To put the mastic on the cake, the surface is evenly lubricated with a good layer of butter-based cream.
After the cream has hardened, the cake can be covered with mastic.
For work, it is better that the mastic be prepared in advance, and have time to lie down. I cooked it the night before, after which, wrapping it in cling film, I sent it to rest in the refrigerator.

I made mastic from chewing marshmallows, I like working with it the most. And considering that I need several colors for work, I painted it even in the process of preparation, so the mastic is painted easier and more evenly.

For work, we need white, light green, pink, brown and black mastic.
I made light green and pink mastic, adding green and red dye to the mixture, due to the fact that the mastic itself is white, the colors are not too saturated.

I usually do brown mastic by adding cocoa, but this time I got brown in the process of making black mastic. To get black, I mixed red and green, then added a little blue, as a result, the liquid turned out to be black (I made the inscription the obtained liquid with a toothpick). But when I mixed this paint with white mastic, I got a rich brown color, and I made tree trunks and a fence with it.
As a result, I didn’t succeed in black, it is probably better for him to buy a good black dye, this was not the case in our city, and ordering on the Internet was late. Therefore, all the black elements had to be coated with black paint with a brush. It turned out not very neatly, but nevertheless, this is a good way out of the situation.
So, all the colors are ready, you can begin to design. First, roll out a light green mastic to cover the cake.

I hastened a little and rolled the mastic not enough, it is very difficult to roll out, but it practically does not stick and does not tear. As a result, my cake was not completely covered, but this problem can be corrected, for this I made an imitation of grass from the scraps of mastic, which I then painted green.

We make tree trunks and fence boards from brown mastic.

Using a toothpick, squeeze the structure of the tree on the boards.

We make leaves on the trees. I didn’t have any light green mastic, so I made leaves of white, and then painted them with a green dye using a brush.

We make pigs from pink mastic. It is enough for us to make the heads and butt of the pigs, glue the heels and ears on the head, draw the eyes - that's it. And with the buttocks even easier, glue the tail and that's it.

From white mastic we make a body for the lamb, just flattening a piece of mastic, and making bumps on it with your fingers.

Sean's ram body is a little different. We roll up a piece of white mastic, the size of a ram, glue small balls to this piece, randomly.

And then we cover the whole body with a thinly rolled piece of mastic.

I made the heads and legs of rams from the remnants of mastic, and then painted them with black paint.

All the details are ready - it remains to collect the cake. Glue the parts flat and thin with sugar syrup, and the larger parts: pigs, rams fasten with toothpicks.

We put all the elements in their places, make an inscription and the whole cake is ready, the child is happy, and not the extra money was left in the family budget.
