A metalwork vice is a necessary thing in any workshop. Today they can be bought without problems in the store (from the smallest to medium and large).

However, it is much more interesting to work with a vise that is made by yourself. And to make them very often is cheaper than to buy.

In this review, the author shows how to make a bench vise with a convenient swivel mechanism.

To make a home-made vise, you will need: a corner, a channel, a round pipe, a stud, metal plates and other materials.

The main stages of work

First of all, the author cuts off two blanks from the corner and welds reinforcement (kerchiefs) to them. The result is a vise hold-down jaw.

The author welds a plate to one of the channels to make a box. A second channel (smaller) is inserted into it. The clamping jaws will need to be welded to them. One will be mobile, the other will be motionless.

In the next step, the author sets the lead screw. Inside the bed, you need to weld the elongated nuts into which the threaded rod is then screwed.

Then we make overlays for clamping jaws. We cut off two pieces of the metal plate of the required size and make them on the front side of the notch.

The author himself makes the rotary mechanism from pieces of a round pipe. One part is attached to a vice, the second - to a workbench.
