We are all used to making knives mostly made of steel. Of course, there are also ceramic kitchen knives, which are also very popular today. But if you wish, you can make a miniature knife from a much more "exotic" material - for example, from an oyster shell.

To realize this crazy idea, you will have to work hard, but in the end you will get a small but very sharp knife that will hold the sharpening well. First, the outer surface of the shell must be cleaned from the "growths" and the upper layer.

You can use ordinary rough sandpaper, diamond abrasive materials or a brush for metal. After machining, a clean and smooth surface should be obtained - just such a workpiece can be used for the subsequent manufacture of a miniature knife.

The main stages of work

First you need to find a more or less even area on the shell. Then we apply the knife template and circle it with a marker. Next, we need an abrasive coated string to cut the workpiece from the shell. A conventional jigsaw file may simply not be able to cope with this task.

At the next stage, we process the workpiece with a file and using a diamond bar. Next, we sharpen a miniature knife on grindstones.

After the base is ready, it remains only to make wooden overlays for the handle. To fix them, we use rivets from ordinary wire.
