With a home-made vice with a vertical clamp, it is very convenient to fix butt welding pipes. Also, this device can be used as an alternative to the usual vice in the country, in the home workshop or garage - simple, reliable and economical.
The design of the vise is quite budgetary (for the production you will need simple and affordable materials), so making them yourself will not be a problem. The base of the vise is a steel strip 7.5 cm wide and 4 mm thick.
The main stages of work
To begin with, it is necessary to cut a workpiece of 35 cm length from a metal strip. Then, from a profile pipe of rectangular cross section with sides of 20x30 mm, two identical pieces of 10 cm long will need to be cut. We drill into them one hole with a diameter of 12 mm at a distance of 15 mm from the edge.
At the next stage, the central part of the vise is assembled. To do this, in addition to pieces of the profile, you will need a jet thrust sleeve, as well as a bolt with nuts and washers. The resulting vertical stand is welded in the center of the base.
From an elongated M16 nut and a small piece of steel rod with a diameter of 8 mm, it is necessary to make a hinge system. Between the walls of the profile pipe we make a seat in which we install the assembled mechanism.
Finishing touch
A lower sponge is welded to the base of the vice, made of a corner 32x32 mm wide 7 cm (note that the corner is welded to the edge). To the axis of the Zhiguli sleeve, you need to weld the upper sponge, which is attached to the profile pipe.
On the other side of the base it is necessary to fix the guide for the stud. At the end of the stud itself, a knob is welded. Then we weld the vise pad onto a rigid base - in this case, you can use a profile pipe 100x60 mm. You can see the detailed assembly process in this video.
