To care for a garden or summer cottage in the summer, when grass and weeds grow like yeast, it is best to use electric garden trimmers. Due to their compact size and low weight, they can be used in hard-to-reach places where a bulky lawn mower does not reach.
And it’s not necessary to buy factory models, because you can make a simple garden trimmer from improvised materials with your own hands. This homemade product will require affordable materials, many of which can easily be found in any home workshop.
The main components for a homemade trimmer:
- profile pipe of square section 40x40 mm;
- a piece of a round pipe 1-1.5 meters long;
- four-blade cutting knife (factory or homemade);
- powerful electric motor for 12-24 V and a rechargeable battery;
- two swivel castors from a cargo trolley;
- 30 degree steel tap, switch and wires.
Electric trimmer manufacturing process
Let's start with the welding work. First of all, you need to weld together two pieces of a square profile at a right angle, and then a round pipe with a tap of 30 degrees. Next, the resulting L-shaped part from the profile will need to be welded to the upper part of the round pipe.
From the square profile and a piece of the plate, it is necessary to weld the wheel mount, which is attached to the bottom of the pipe. We install the engine, connect the wires to the battery and switch and fasten the wheels. At the last stage, a four-blade cutting knife and a protective casing of sheet steel are installed.
