When working with leather, different tools are used. One of these tools is a sack knife. Most often, it has a semicircular shape and is usually ground only from one side.

A knife for cutting and thinning the skin can be made with your own hands from a circular saw blade. A feature of this knife is the presence of holes for the fingers, so that it fits comfortably in the hand.

And first of all, the master selects a piece of the saw blade that is suitable in size and shape, after which he draws the contours of the knife with a marker. You also need to make markings for drilling holes.

The main stages of work

At the next stage, with the help of a core drill, the master drills four holes for the fingers. Then, with a grinder, he cuts the workpiece along the contour, and finalizes it on a belt grinding machine.

Then the master forms the slopes of the blade, heats the workpiece red-hot and cools in oil. After hardening, metal tempering is done. After that, you can proceed to sharpening the blade.

The master decided to make a handle for a sheriff knife from multi-colored plywood - it turned out very original. If desired, a knife can be burnished with a solution of ferric chloride.
