It does not matter whether you are making a new knife or resuscitating an old blade, the handle should always be comfortable and beautiful at the same time. Wooden or forged knife handles are a classic. These knives look perfect. True, their production takes more time and effort.
However, today it is possible to produce handles from more modern materials. For example, you can make an unusual handle for a knife from thick copper wire and epoxy. Thanks to such an unexpected combination, the finished handle is very beautiful and very original.
If you are restoring an old knife, the first thing you need to do is remove the rust. To do this, you can use the emery machine or grinder. If the knife is well worked out, it also does not hurt to align the blade of the blade with respect to the tail.
The process of making a knife handle
We randomly wind a thick copper wire onto the handle of a knife. If the shank is short, then using the same wire you can increase the handle to the required length. Please note that it is not necessary to wind the wire randomly - you can do this more accurately.
Next, fill the handle of the knife with epoxy. To do this, you first need to make a mold from a plastic pipe. We cut a piece of pipe along, lubricate the two halves from the inside with a solid oil, after which we connect it together and wrap it with tape. We install the pipe on plywood and fix it with plasticine. We fix the knife with hot glue.
