When the steel disk from the circular saw has become unusable, do not rush to throw it away. It can be successfully turned into a convenient kitchen hatchet. To do this, you only need the disc itself, wood trimmings, metal pins, glue, tools, a little patience and arms from the shoulders.

First, mark the saw blade, clamp it in a vise. Using the guide in the form of wooden bars and a bench vise, we cut it around the edges with a grinder, making a rectangular blank.

Since the steel is hot, you need to take a vacation - we will place the workpiece briefly in the furnace. Next, mark the shape of the future hatchet and cut it out with the help of a band saw. On a belt sander, remove the teeth, round the edges.

The main stages of work

Then we drill holes for fastening the future handle. We temper our hatchet by heating it in an oven and cooling it in oil. We sharpen the blade of the hatchet on a belt grinder, and then bring it to razor sharpness with whetstones.

Then we treat the hatchet in the prepared chemical solutions: first in the ferric chloride to achieve the effect of “aging”, and then in the soda solution to neutralize the remaining hydrochloric acid.

Getting to the manufacture of pens. Let's make it in two colors. We cut the wooden blanks, process them on a band saw. At the next stage, you need to glue them with the ends to each other. We use light and dark stripes to insert between the parts.

We trim the protruding edges, bringing the handle closer to the intended shape, drill holes for its attachment to the hatchet. We process two halves of the handle on a grinding machine, smoothing out irregularities. Then glue them and sharpen the blade.
